Weekly Update Article August 26, 2019

Crime Stoppers of Mid-Michigan is celebrating their 30th anniversary this year. The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office has valued the partnership we have with Crime Stoppers and the support they have given us.

Crime Stoppers has accomplished many things over the past 30 years. They service five counties – Clinton, Eaton, Ingham, Jackson, and Shiawassee, and in 2018 alone reported a 75 percent pickup rate. This success is due in large part to confidential tips received via telephone, the Crime Stoppers website, social media or their mobile app. Many of you are probably familiar with Crime Stoppers through their media partnership with WLNS-TV6.

Importantly, tipsters do not have to give their name and Crime Stoppers does not utilize caller ID. When Crime Stoppers receives the information, the caller is given a confidential code number and the tip is communicated to the appropriate law enforcement agency. If the tip results in an arrest, recovery of stolen property, recovery of illegal narcotics or a combination therefore, the caller can qualify for a reward that can range up to $1,000. These payouts are even confidential. A check is made out to cash, is sealed in an envelope located at a bank in Lansing and are identified by a pickup code.

Congratulations to Crime Stoppers of Mid-Michigan for their 30 years of service and thank you to the many citizens who have provided tips that led to the arrest of many suspects throughout these years.

Yours in Public Safety,

Sheriff Tom Reich
