Eaton County Veterans Eviction/Foreclosure Prevention and Meijer Voucher Programs

Eaton County Veterans Eviction/Foreclosure Prevention and Meijer Voucher Programs

Eaton County has received grant funding from the Michigan Veteran Affairs Agency (MVAA) to assist veterans residing in Eaton County with eviction and foreclosure prevention services.  Qualifying veterans may be eligible to receive up $1,500 for eviction prevention or up to $5,000 for foreclosure prevention.  If awarded, grant funds would be used to pay delinquent rent, mortgage payments, or delinquent tax bills to prevent a veteran from being evicted from their home.  Program participants are required to be Veterans, must meet 80% area median income limits, have an eviction notice or summons and/or documentation of foreclosure status from their lender or Eaton County Treasurer’s office.  Veterans will also be required to participate in brief budget and/or foreclosure counseling and be willing to apply for other funding sources if available such as the Michigan Department of Health and Human Service (MDHHS) or the Michigan Veterans Trust Fund (MVTF).  All funds must be expended prior to September 30, 2020.

Additionally, in anticipation of food and personal care items being a critical need at this time the MVAA has partnered with Meijer to provide a voucher program to simplify the process for veterans who are in need of such items. Eaton County has been awarded Meijer vouchers which will be available to qualifying veterans residing in Eaton County to purchase food, paper products, laundry and household cleaning products, health and beauty care items, and pet food.  Vouchers can only be redeemed at Meijer stores and can only be used once.  All vouchers expire on September 30, 2020.
