Overall the Eaton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 951 calls for service/events.  The following are the more higher volume responses - Alarms (34), Car/Deer Accidents (23), Assist Citizen/Motorist (33), Check Well Beings (35), Domestic Disputes (18), Shoplifting Complaints (23), Larcenies (39), Operating While Impaired (10), Personal Injury Crashes (7), Property Damage Crashes (40), Suspicious Subject/Situation/Vehicle, Traffic Hazards (43), Traffic Stops (176), and Traffic Violations (26).

Many Eaton County citizens, as well as citizens from surrounding counties, have taken advantage of our FREE Recreational Safety classes through the years. I am proud to continue providing these classes that are taught by two certified members of the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office. I wanted to remind you that next week will be the last Boating Safety class for the season. The next few months will be devoted to Hunter Safety classes.

The class next week is scheduled for Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights, June 10, 11, and 13. The times are 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. To register please call Pat Barnes at 517-543-5257 or email him at Pbarnes@eatoncounty.org. He will need the full name and date of birth for everyone you’d like to register.

This is a course for all boaters, the personal watercraft operator; the hunter or fisherman operating an outboard utility boat; the skipper of a family ski boat; the sailing enthusiast. All boaters must follow the same nautical rules, regulations and courtesies of the water. All are subject to the same forces of nature while boating.

As boating is often a family activity, the course is of value to all members of a boating family. While the content of the student manual serves as the basis for this course, it will also serve as a reference book in basic boating long after the course work is completed. The course meets the educational standards of NASBLA, the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators, and features a final examination as required by Michigan Law.

Yours in Public Safety,

Sheriff Tom Reich
