Eaton County Parks 2011 Leadership Awards

The Eaton County Commission joined the Eaton County Parks and Recreation Commission in paying tribute to 19 individuals for their volunteer contributions to the Park system during fiscal year 2010-2011.

The November 16th ceremony took place in the Commission Chambers in the Charlotte Courthouse with presentations made by Eaton County Commission Chair John Forell, Parks Chairman Larry Emery and State Representative Deb Shaughnessy.  Shaughnessy presented the State of Michigan Tribute, which was sponsored by Senator Rick Jones and co-sponsored by Shaughnessy and Representative Mike Shirkey.  Each Tribute was signed by Governor Rick Snyder.

Honored were Grand Ledge City Manager Jon Bayless, Grand Ledge Parks and Recreation Director Pat O'Keefe, Maple Valley High School skilled trades instructor Jeff Seavolt, Greenways volunteer Blair Miller and Lansing State Journal Community Newspapers writer Alan Miller.

Joining the group was Tri County Regional Planner Harmony Gmazel, Eaton County Conservation District Director Andrea Stay and Michigan Trails and Greenways Director Nancy Krupiarz.  Fox Park Astronomy leader Jason Blaschka, Potterville City Manager Wanda Darrow and Grand Ledge Lions President Gene Ringle were also honored.

Special recognition went to Ed Micklatcher (Potawatomi Resource, Conservation and Development Council), Alicia Armstrong (Playmakers), Kellie Dean (Dean Transportation) and Karla Chamberlain (J&K Steamboat) for their voluntary support of the special events conducted this past season.

Additional honors went to Friends of Eaton County Parks President Alvin Whitfield and full time employees Naturalist/Operations Manager Jackie Blanc, Office Manager Missy Norris and Groundskeeper Duane Kelley.  The Department has suggested that the 2012 Awards be called the Alvin Whitfield Leadership Awards.
