Applying for a Concealed Pistol License

County Clerk filings are accepted Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Requirements
New applicants must apply in person and will need the following:
- Fully completed application in ink
- Download application form from the Michigan State Police (MSP) site
- Picture Identification (Driver’s License, or State ID) - Your registered address must be in Eaton County
- Immigrants also need to provide their ID card with 9-digit Alien Registration number
- Certificate of Completion of a pistol safety training course (Valid for 5 years) - must contain the following:
- The statement: "this course complies with section 5J of 1927 PA 372"
- The instructor’s name and original signature
- Additionally on the certificate or an attached page there must be:
- The instructor’s phone number
- The name and telephone number of the certifying organization of the instructor
- Instructor certification number, and certification expiration date

Fees
- $100 (non-refundable) is due at time of application with checks made payable to "Eaton County Clerk". (it is the applicant’s responsibility to understand the qualification requirements.)
- $15 for fingerprinting, paid separately at the Eaton County Sheriff’s Department AFTER you apply and pay at the County Clerk’s Office.
We accept cash, check, money order and debit or credit cards. There will be a $2.50 fee added for debit cards and a $4 fee added for credit cards.
Once you have made application at the Eaton County Clerk’s Office, new applicants will need to be fingerprinted at a LiveScan fingerprinting location within 45 days.
Approval
If approved, your license card must be mailed to you; please note mail time can take several weeks and we cannot confirm by phone the status of your application.
Renewal Applicants 6 Months to Expiration or Expired Less Than 1 Year

If you need your renewal notice letter reissued with the pin to use online

- Fully completed application in ink (download the CPL application form from MSP, or pick up in office (the same application is used for both new and renewals)
- Picture ID (driver’s license, or State ID) and Current CPL card (or if expired your most recent CPL card)
- Your registered address must be in Eaton County (Immigrants also need to provide their ID card with 9-digit Alien Registration number)
Fees
$115 (non-refundable) is due at time of application with checks made payable to "Eaton County Clerk". We accept cash, check, money order and debit or credit cards.
There will be a $2.50 fee added for debit cards and a $6 fee added for credit cards.

Residency
A member of the armed forces shall be considered a legal resident of this state if any of the following apply:
- The person is on active duty status with the United States armed forces and is stationed outside of this state, but the person’s home of record is in this state.
- The person is on active duty status with the United States armed forces and is permanently stationed in this state, but the person’s home of record is in another state.
If you do not have Michigan state identification you will need to provide a passport quality photograph (not your passport but an unattached 2 inch by 2 inch photo like you would submit when applying for a passport.)
