Physical Plant

The Eaton County Physical Plant Department manages and maintains the Government Complex Facilities and Grounds through the collaborative effort of Administrative, Building Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance and Custodial Services teams. 

Physical Plant Administration

Administrative duties directly manage and support the physical plant daily operations of Building Maintenance, Grounds Maintenance and Custodial Services.

Capital budgeting, facilities planning and development, vendor contracting, equipment purchases, building repairs, renovations and new construction projects, solar energy system and building performance improvement  monitoring and electric vehicle charging are also responsibilities of the physical plant administration.

Other Interdepartmental Services:

  • Process Work Orders and Department Requests
  • Manage Employee and Vendor Identification Badge System
  • Electronic Building Security-Door Access Control and Key Administration
  • Building Safety and Emergency Response Planning
  • Building Management System (BMS) Administration
  • Shipping/ Receiving and Mailroom Management


Building Maintenance

Our building maintenance staff perform daily activities related to routine repair and maintenance of buildings and other structures, for both recurring repairs and preventive maintenance. Including general building component upkeep, carpentry, electrical, plumbing and HVAC. 

The maintenance crew is also directly responsible for fulfilling work orders and department requests, troubleshooting utilities equipment and monitoring building management systems related to heating, cooling, electrical power and lighting, gas, water and other utilities necessary for normal operations at the government complex. 

The building maintenance staff is on call 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Grounds Maintenance

The grounds maintenance crew perform daily activities related to the operation and maintenance of landscape and grounds at the government complex. Including lawn care, landscaping, tree trimming, parking lot maintenance, snow removal and salting.

Maintaining related tools and equipment are additional responsibilities of the grounds maintenance staff. 

The staff is on call 24 hours a day during the winter months for snow removal.

Custodial Services

Our custodial services team perform daily cleaning and upkeep services in all government complex buildings, public common areas, corridors, restrooms and offices. Which include waste and recyclables removal, restroom solid surface, glass and fixture cleaning, carpet and hard floor care as well as specialized floor cleaning maintenance projects. Executing related work orders and department requests are additional responsibilities of the custodial crew.

The work shift hours for Custodial Services are 4:30pm to 1:00am.
