Duties & Responsibilities
The duties of the County Clerk are prescribed by State Statute and include being the clerk of the following boards and agencies:
- Board of Commissioners
- Board of Election Commissioners
- Chief Election Officer for the County
- County Canvassers
- Jury Board
- Plat Board
- Register of Vital Statistics
The County Clerk is also the "keeper" of the Circuit Court seal and Circuit Court files. Felony criminal cases that are bound over from District Court, personal protection orders, and civil cases over $25,000 are filed in the Circuit Court Clerk's Office. State Statute also prescribes the duties of the Register of Deeds. The Register is responsible for receiving, recording and digital storage of all legal documents affecting real estate within Eaton County.
