Weekly Update Article January 10, 2022

Between January 2-9, 2022, Eaton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 675 calls for service.  Our higher call volumes occurred in the following areas:  Traffic Stops-119, Alarms-35, Property Damage Crashes-30, Shoplifting Complaints-30, Assist Citizen/Motorist Assist-27, Traffic Violations-24, Suspicious Situation/Subject/Vehicle-23, Traffic Hazards-22, Car/Deer Accidents-20, Domestic Disputes-17, Larcenies-16, Check Well Beings-12, Car in the Ditch-11, Disorderly Person or Subject-10, Civil Complaints-8, and Vacation Checks-6.

Vacation Checks – If you haven’t heard of this service, it is quite popular with many of our snowbirds.  There is a simple form that is completed over the phone where you would give your address, contact information, who you would like notified in case of an emergency, any vehicles being left on the premises, special lighting on timers, and any information on people you might have checking on your home while you’re gone.   An Eaton County Sheriff’s Deputy is then assigned to   periodically check your home until your return.  This is a free service, and if you are leaving for an extended length of time or maybe a family vacation, the number to call to sign up is 517-543-5247.

Many readers pay special attention each week to the number of calls Deputies have responded to during the previous week. Before we get too far into 2022, I wanted to give you our total numbers for 2021.  Eaton County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to 39,303 calls for service.  Among these 8,975 were traffic stops; 1,251 were alarms; 1,243 were traffic hazards; 1,201 were property damage crashes; 1,776 were traffic violations; 1,156 were citizens’ assists; 1,141 were Check Well Beings; 1,091 were shoplifting complaints; 744 were larcenies; 487 were personal injury crashes; and 352 were property damage hit and runs.

I am proud of our Deputies and the level of service they provide the citizens of Eaton County on a daily basis.  We will continue to keep the safety of Eaton County citizens first as we move through 2022.

Yours in Public Safety

Sheriff Tom Reich
