Recent Scam Calls - Many citizens throughout Eaton and Ingham County have received a call from someone claiming to be Sgt. Marks or various other fictitious names from the Eaton County Sheriff’s Office. The reasons he gives for calling you vary from saying you have a warrant out for your arrest and we’re coming to get you, accusing you of being a sex offender, saying you owe a bond, saying a relative of yours is in jail and bail money is required, etc. Sometimes they will give you a different number to call from your cell phone giving you instructions on where to take the money. Sometimes they will threaten you. Quite often the people contacted are our elderly citizens.
Please be aware that these calls are scam calls. The Eaton County Sheriff’s Office will not call you asking for money for bonds, bail, warrants, etc.
I take the welfare of citizens very seriously. I understand these calls can be upsetting and are geared to intimidate you. Please call us if you have any doubts that the call you received is a scam.
Yours in Public Safety,
Sheriff Tom Reich
