National Animal Control Officer Week is April 9-15 - Eaton County Animal Control is a division of the Sheriff’s Office and has three Animal Control Officers who are truly devoted to their profession.  During 2022, Eaton County Animal Control responded to 15 animal bite cases, 65 animal cruelty cases, 35 barking dog cases, 117 dog running loose calls, and 389 miscellaneous animal calls.  Animal Control is not a humane society or an animal rescue; they handle and investigate complaints involving domestic animals.  Additionally, they provide the following services:

  • Animal Adoptions
  • Animal Bites/Vicious Animals
  • Animal Cruelty/Abuse/Neglect Investigations
  • Dogs/Livestock at Large
  • Enforcement of State and County Laws Regarding Animals
  • Public Education Concerning Animal Care and Related Laws
  • Stray/Abandoned Dogs

Many of you probably are not aware that Animal Control has a Special Care Fund. The purpose of this fund is to pay medical expenses for seriously injured animals that are in our care. Anyone wishing to contribute to this fund, please send your donation to:  Eaton County Animal Control, 756 Courthouse Drive, Charlotte 48813.  There is also a link on the Eaton County website displaying pictures of animals available for adoption.

I am proud of the Eaton County Animal Control Division.  They are hardworking, dedicated professionals with a heart for animals.

Yours in Public Safety,

Sheriff Tom Reich
